Scouts get Thrifty at Thriftwood
1st August 2009
Despite a late change of venue we got off to our Summer Camp at Thriftwood nr Brentwood at the end of last month.
Thriftwood is located just outside Brentwood and is accessed through a housing estate, just about the last place you would expect to find a campsite!
We were able to take part in many onsite activities which included Climbing & Abseiling, Canoeing & Kayaking, (yes we managed to sink both!), Archery & Shooting, Raftbuilding, as weel as try new activities such as Ice Climbing, Cresta Run (toboggans to you and me), Water Zorbing where you get in a large inflatable ball and have to move around on water (a bit like a hamster in a wheel) the trick being not to let any water in the end of the ball or you will look like the rinse cycle on the washing machine! We were also able to cook on fires, our success being toad in the hole!
We also found time to go offsite with an afternoon in sunny Southend, and a day out at Thorpe Park where we were amazed at the COLLUSSUS size of the park. There were so many rides to try and fit in it was hard to decide where to start. As we were in no RUSH we took a LOGGERS LEAP to the RHUMBA RAPIDS where we all got soaked! We then had to go into the VORTEX to dry out, but there was a SAMURAI there who we captured by STEALTH and put him in the SLAMMER from where there was X:\NO WAY OUT. After all this we were quite hungry and we took some time out for something to eat and drink. Some QUANTUM time later we met our NEMESIS (INFERNO) with the SAW (the RIDE) the only way to overcome this was to DENTONATOR our way out. On our way out we caught a FLYING FISH which we used to DEPTH CHARGE the OCTOPUS GARDEN.
